Maths Educaiton with Digital Tech

Published by Continuum Books "Mathematics Education with Digital Technology" edited by Adrian Oldknow & Carol Knights, Russell has written Chapter 12 "Home & School - Bridging the Gap"  The title draws on the expertise of a wide range of contributors from across the globe.  It is thought provoking and challenging and covers a diverse range of ICT.  It is hoped that this publication can move the agenda forward and bring ICT to all our students.  ISBN 978-1-4411-8472-6 published by www.Continuumbooks.com 2011  Other contributors include Don Passey, Andy Kemp, Vanessa Pittard and David Wright, the book is highly recommended but it isn't for the faint hearted.

An Innovative Radio Broadcasting System for educators looking to engage learners with C21st ICT skillsA complete turnkey solution - everything in one portable system, easily moved from classroom to classroom or installed into a Studio Space.  The Broadcaster comes with a high quality M99 presenter microphone, two high quality guest microphones, four guest headphones, a detachable ON AIR/MIC LIVE illuminated sign and is presented in three incredibly tough and durable flight cases.  This equipment is both at home in a studio setting and in a classroom.

This is a LIVE School Radio Broadcasting System - created by Russell Prue around the specific needs of young broadcasters.  It is portable and designed to be easily moved around an education establishment on a flat surface. The system is digital and is packed with ground-breaking technology that other suppliers haven't thought of; the equipment breaks down and packs away into three easily moved pieces, so off-site Outside Broadcasts are simple and easy to manage and no one piece is too heavy to move.  After working with young people from all over the country for two years on Live Radio Shows with lots of other manufacturers' equipment, Russell felt compelled to design his own that was better and cheaper than comparable solutions.  While our competitors were asking teachers what they wanted, we were asking children.  By understanding their specific needs we were able to setup a new company to make our own solution.  We aren't selling equipment that the radio industry doesn't want anymore!  This is the newest, freshest approach to Live Radio and The Broadcaster is packed with ground-breaking innovative technology.

Russell hosting a live radio show at BETT 2010At BETT 2010, Russell launched The Anderton Tiger Broadcaster with a LIVE four day Radio Show featuring young reporters from the National Education Network competition.  You can hear some of the best bits of this marathon broadcast in our Podcasts area.  The Broadcaster has been specifically designed to improve speaking & listening skills, motivate reluctant writers and offer broadcasting opportunities to less confident pupils & students.  Everything is included to get started straight away, there are over 150 Jingles already on the system and streaming software has been installed and configured ready to go.  When we call The Broadcaster a Turnkey system, that's exactly what we mean.  Broadcaster Control SoftwareNothing except children's imagination needs to be added.  You don't have to do everything live, the system can of course make fabulous podcasts too, but there is something magical about doing a live show.  When everything has to be right first time, learners appear to put more effort in, achieve higher standards and this leads to a rise in self esteem and every educator knows how important this can be for learners.  From the moment you first power-up the system you will see how much careful thought has gone into the design.  Jingles can be looped during mid-playback at the touch of a button, music tracks paused at anytime, the library searched instantly and content dragged and dropped onto the screen ready for playing.  The Broadcaster works with the commonest audio file formats, MP3 and WAV and doesn't insist on exceptionally large loss-less file formats that some of our competitors do.  Ripping audio from a CD is quick and easy, music can be loaded from any MP3 source without any fuss.  We have done everything possible to engage the highest number of learners and not just those interested in a career in Radio Broadcasting.  The system is professional enough to give a commercial radio station a run for their money, while at the same time not being too complicated.  Using the guest talkback facility, guests can be prompted secretly in their headphones without listeners knowing.  This builds confidence in young broadcasters' ability to tackle even harder words and promotes language development.

Anderton Tiger BroadcasterWheelchair users are easily accommodated  as the twin 19” touch-screen monitors swing out to the sides allowing access to the control software and remote fader control. The system is height adjustable and with On-Screen One-Touch-Auto-fade, running a live show has never been easier. With just one touch each fader can be automatically controlled and what’s more, you can see the Flying-Faders actually move on the traditional fader control desk. The Broadcaster comes with two guest microphones and four guest headphones.  There are colour co-ordinated microphone windshields that match the fader labels making it easy to see who is on each microphone.  The presenter's microphone is a high quality BeyerDynamic M99 product that gives an excellent professional sound to any broadcaster.

Flying Fader Audio Control DeskA constant backup is maintained at all times as everything is copied to a spare 500GB HD, music can be imported using the onboard CD/DVD writer.  We couldn't find any live show control software that was good enough, so we wrote our own in-house specifically with young people and inexperienced broadcasters in mind.  Our software comes with a year of online updates keeping you up to date with the latest functionality.  This system is unlike anything else available and is exactly what young people need and not what the radio industry thinks they need.  Skype has been seamlessly integrated into the software so that callers can be put ON AIR and texts and messages received live during a show.  Skype to Skype calls are free so reporting from the playing fields during a live game over the LAN will cost you nothing.  The additional 19" touch-screen monitor is also perfect for script reading and writing, editing audio files, replying to emails, blogging, sending Tweets all while at the same time the show is being controlled from the other screen.

The two audio monitor speakers are protected by a grill to prevent straying fingers from entering the delicate speaker cones and damaging them.  The Broadcaster is built to last, it is tough and can survive the bumps and knocks that good classroom technology should be able to cope with.  You have the best of both worlds, portable and transportable and also having the opportunity to install the same system at desk-working height for a studio installation.
